Journaling Prompt:
What was the most outrageous thing you and your best friend did?
In elementary:
Stole un-ripe grapes from the neighbor on the other side of the fence.
In middle school:
Sang obnoxious songs over and over again and tried to bum money off of other people so we could buy a $.50 Twix and split it.
Played Barbies at a sleep over, even though we were 12.
In high school:
Nothing is coming to mind, so if someone wants to chime in....
In college:
At the end of each year, we would walk late at night (probably like 9:30pm or something tame like that) to the quad, and then we would take off our t-shirts and race across the grass....twice. (We kept our shirts firmly around our necks.)
Painted a co-ed's finger nails and toe-nails on some boring Saturday night.
Played raquetball, 4 times a week, mostly against boys, and beat them often enough to keep them coming back for more.
As an adult:
Let our kids eat strawberries washed off with a hose and let them run around in their panties outside.
Went to the fabric store with all of our kids, together.
I know, wild, and it's a wonder that I could set down roots and raise children with a history like that. It's a good thing they're not old enough to understand what 'a-half-streak' actually means...

What I Learned From My Sibilings:
(I was going to post the big kitchen reveal but since I can't remember the last time that one of my projects was 1)finished on time, 2)looked exactly how I had it pictured, and 3)was never frustrating, that's not going to happen today.)
- Getting in trouble is way more fun if there are twice as many people in on it.
- Laughing when you get a spanking does not make it hurt less, no, no, instead you'll get a double dose.
- If anyone ever says: I have a good idea, chances are, it's not a good idea.
- Sometimes people actually think that you're really cool, even if they never tell you.
- Telling someone else's secret is always a bad idea, even if it's telling your brother's crush that he likes her, when he was seven.
- The age limit on a McDonald's play structure is more of a guideline.
- Hanging out with a sister and her boyfriend is disturbing and not really that fun.
- You can believe in Santa Claus for an embarrassing amount of time if you have siblings in on the action.
- Sharing a room with a sister is the best recipe for a good relationship....ten years later.
- Singing into a wooden spoon can make anyone feel like a rock star.
- You don't remember as much of the fighting as one would think.
- Sometimes it helps to have a common enemy, like parents.
The kitchen WILL BE ready to show off tomorrow, but just in case, maybe check for a posting later in the day....

Defining Moments
You know those moments in your life that define you as a person, they determine who you will be as an adult, they sum you up as a child?
I had such an experience in 3rd grade. I was calm and quiet back then. We must of had some free time in the classroom because I wasn't sitting at a desk when the incident occurred.
There were four of us sitting at the back of the classroom where the cubbies were. Two boys and two girls. At the time I probably assumed that was just coincidence, but, looking back, I'm positive it was fate.
We were gathered in a circle. We were singing. The song? The Name Game. Why, oh why, did we think that was a good idea? I guess I'll never know.
Anyway, my turn approached, and I selected a boy out of the circle named Tucker. It seemed harmless enough. I was so short-sighted back then.
Then I began to sing:
Tucker, Tucker, Bo Bucker
Banana Fanana Fo &*^@#!%
And that was it. What more can I say, it speaks for itself.

Country Living
Wouldn't that be neat if this were actually an article that I'm submitting to their magazine? It's not, of course.
I thought my mini vacation was perfect, I ate a lot, slept a lot and found a number of people, i.e. all of L.A. who would qualify for What Not to Wear.
The other night the girls were asking for stories from my childhood, that is farther away than I think it should be. A lot of the retelling came from when our family moved to 'the country'. I put together a little sample of how you know if you live in the country.

You know you live in the country if:
- you call the nearest largely populated area 'town'.
- you 'rent' movies from your neighbors.
- you can get a horse by working for it.
- the only cell phone reception is by a flagpole, in the parking lot, of the high school.
- prayer is said before each school event.
- there are four generations of a family still living there and you call the oldest one grandma and grandpa.
- directions sound something like this: if you take this road, that has the big haystack, and you turn in after the first dairy, but before the second dairy, right where the line of mailboxes are and you see a fence, that's us.
- you go swimming in your neighbor's milk tank. It had water, not milk, by the way.
- there is all day kindergarten because there's not enough time, money, or people to have the buses leave and come back again half way through the day.
- you're related to someone. Seriously, you can move to a town and not know a soul and within minutes, you've realized you're related.
- there's a row of churches.
- they have a 'parade' on Homecoming through the 'town'.
- one of the bars has the best hamburgers, ever.
- some stores are only open certain hours on certain days, or whatever they feel like doing.
- people know what corn topping, mud bogging, canal swimming, and speeding are.
- someone is driving really slowly, it's a farmer checking out the fields or an illegal.
- your sister and you just move there and you decide to go on a bike ride, and realize your destination is farther than you thought, but you keep going, and on the way home, your sister gets a flat tire and you're still miles from your home, on a deserted road. Oh yes, and you forgot to tell your mom.
- there are rodents shot with a BB gun hanging on fence posts.
- your dog may or may not tree a raccoon up the electric pole in your front yard.
- a block party encompasses a five mile radius.
- most people learn how to drive a tractor and walk all in the same week.
- people leave their car running with the keys in it while they run into the convenience store.
- trucks are called rigs.
- you think one of the best things is to slide down a huge row of manure that's been wrapped in plastic.
Till next week,
Katie
