Updating….

a ghetto light with a little less ghetto of a light.

That was an awkward sentence.

SAM_1808

The light in the dining room is hot wired.  Which means there is no switch, just a  pull chain.  So the options for new lights are pretty limited.

But I was tire.d of looking at this sorry excuse for dining room lighting.

So.

I cut off the old shade.

Why I did this, I don’t know.

Because I ended up having to take the light fixture down anyway to slip the new ‘shade’ over it.

Oh well.

I bought this ‘light’ in Colorado for $3 at a garage sale.  (It used to just have a light bulb hanging in it.)New Do 014

(You can see it in the corner there.)

Bryce says it doesn’t look any worse than the old one.

I don’t think that’s a compliment.

Few things could look worse than the old one.

The girls are coming home today.

It’s amazing how much I miss all the chaos.

Not really.

But I do miss them.

That’s a Really Great Line….

Look what Bryce built me.

It’s a clothes line if you can’t tell.

SAM_1806

He asked if I was going to do laundry today so I could try it out.

SAM_1807

Ha.

Not likely.

But I am excited.

A Tuesday Post

SAM_1804

Meg’s baby for her 3rd birthday.

She looks a lot more Asian and Rosie Riveter-like than I was anticipating.

Oh well?

The girls are off visiting grandma and grandpa so I’m trying to spend my time getting some things done….

Which means I haven’t showered, am not wearing a bra and my eating is erratic.

I Know a Guy

Who brings home six new baby chicks because a girl calls him up on the phone and tells him that they’re 25% off and they need a home and they happen to have a home and the chicks will start giving them eggs by December.

SAM_1799

Who makes and hangs swings for his kids.

SAM_1797

Who designs and builds a retaining wall garden, with the help of his dad, for a girl’s Mother’s Day gift.

SAM_1796

{All of that green madness to the left is lettuce, peas, spinach, broccoli and potatoes.}

SAM_1794

Who hauls and rakes like five yards of good garden soil.

SAM_1793

Who gets a baby-sitter and takes a girl to a local garden show and lets her pick out as many pepper {10} and tomato {21} plants as she wants and walks around carrying all of it cause they didn’t know that they should bring a wagon or something.

Who goes garage sale-ing.

Who watches So You Think You Can Dance and any other singing/dancing movie that ever comes out.

Who buys a girl Downton Abbey for Valentine’s Day.

Who washes the dinner dishes every night, faithfully.

Who said his next project he would build a clothes line for this girl.

Who never complains when he comes home at 5pm and is told that people are coming over for dinner at 5:30pm.

Who makes artisan bread.

Who is budgeting the finances so the girl can buy honey bees next year.

Who unloads the dishwasher and washes the dishes in the morning while the girl makes breakfast and packs lunches.

Who said they could cut down two Christmas trees this year.

Who sets the sun.

I hope all of my girls find someone just like him.

My Life Doesn’t Stink

Which, if you didn’t know, makes for really lame blog posts.

The worst thing that has happened, is I just snagged my pants on a sharp corner.  That’s it.  And even for my affinity for the dramatic, not even I can turn that into a worthwhile post.

The honeysuckle has bloomed.

We’ve harvested broccoli, peas, lettuce, strawberries and a couple of raspberries.

All of the chickens are getting along.

The hailstorm that occurred only during the three minutes while I was waiting at the bus stop didn’t do any damage to the garden.

SAM_1789

{Does anyone else find pianos highly un photogenic?  It’s like they don’t even try to  look their best.}

I moved this frame because it was bending the curtain rod that will probably never be used for curtains.

SAM_1792

I’ve managed to find the time to make hundreds of half square triangles.  I actually don’t know if there are hundreds….I have no desire to count them whatsoever.

SAM_1790

Spencer is walking, most of the time.

SAM_1791

And Adeline hasn’t taken a timeout in days.

*Please note that I have not mentioned anything about Meg’s personality swings, behavior or misbehavior.  Not saying anything is evidence enough.

School is out this week.

I’m meeting my sister up in Portland for the weekend.

My in-laws will have the girls all of next week. {And there was much rejoicing.}

See?

Lame.

Oh well.  Somehow we’ll all suffer through it.

Eye Candy

This is what happens when you have an almost three year old who you put down for a nap in your room where you forgot that you kept your mascara.

Sometimes I feel like such a rookie of a mom.

SAM_1786

This is what happens when you’re giving Spencer a bath and you tell Meg she can take a bath too, assuming she will get in the EMPTY side of the sink and you leave and come back to this.

And then she complains that she is squishy and cold.

SAM_1785

And this is what you get when you have some extra pear bins, some ducks that have been kicked out of the kitchen and a creative, handy husband.  Who is also probably cursing you and your ‘hobbies’ under his breath for two days while he puts this together.

SAM_1787

With the weather finally turning nice we have been working our white little bums off outside in the yard.

I just bought 40 golden raspberry canes off a guy on craigslist.  They’re huge.  If that doesn’t make you want to come and visit, I don’t know what will.

Katie

P.S.  Thanks to Stuff and Nonsense for hosting a giveaway that I actually won.  It feels really good to leave the ranks for those who ‘never win anything’.

On This Day…

I will….

  • not take a nap before 9am.  Although that’s really hard to commit to.
  • not get frustrated with Spencer who throws a complete fit at the dinner table because he is so hungry but refused to eat at the previous meal and as a result is so upset that he can’t calm himself down enough to eat.
  • just put him down for a ‘break’ in his crib so I can eat.
  • make dinner again for the 500th night in a row.
  • count this week as a success because Adeline has been awesome.
  • sew something I want to sew.
  • actually curl my hair rather than just turn on the curling iron and then getting distracted.
  • be grateful for the rain.
  • be grateful for the heat that I was able to turn on this morning because it’s like 50 degrees outside.
  • tell you that that is just a guess that I actually don’t want to look up the actual temperature because I will inevitably become depressed and want to take a nap, thus breaking my first resolution.
  • not make the cookies I have been planning to bake all week because of the pie, pudding, brownie batter, ice cream (homemade and store bought), and sugar cookies filling my house.
  • wrap up the fat quarter bundles and get them ready to ship.
  • stop obsessively looking at my sunroom picture that I pinned on Pinterest, ogling at the 60 pins it got.  It’s pathetic really.
  • not eat all of the Junior Mints that I purchased as a treat for the movie night…before tonight.
  • not be jealous of Bryce who gets eat lunch at Subway for free while I have something lame, again.
  • pretend I am not a bad mom or similar to a prison warden because I give my children bread and water to eat when they complain about breakfast, lunch or dinner.
  • give up trying to understand why my children insist on loosening all of the knobs on all possible pieces of furniture in the entire house, and probably at other people’s houses as well.
  • not go into a detailed explanation about the situation of my bathroom windows detailing how one can’t see anything from the ground level so frosted glass is not imperative or how curtains are fruitless because of the direction the windows open and how they are often open because we have no air conditioning or bathroom vents and I will not be taking any such precautions anyway because bare white bums are only seen when people are on the roof and from now on I will just remember that, and hold it.
  • be the bigger person and clean up the stickiness on the floor even though I didn’t make the mess.
  • enjoy the three day weekend.

What about you?
