Meg and Adeline’s Room

It used to be the storage room.

Weirdly enough, I did not take a picture of it crammed with toys, Christmas ornaments, fabric, tools, paint, and a pump for our never-worked sprinkler system.

So, this is the closest thing I have.

Super dungeon like.

My friend asked if Meg and Adeline felt unloved because they were being moved to a room previously filled with spiders and falling off plaster.

Insulting.

After carpet but before baseboard and wall touch up.

Here’s to my first carpet purchase in my career as an adult.

See how cute it is?

I mean, there’s pom-poms.

And nice looking boys in cardigans who may or may not be the ‘poster’ children for bad posture.

I picked up the little cart at an estate sale, in their dump pile.

Our friend welded on new casters and it got a good sanding and new paint.

DSC_0009

I picked up the matching metal beds from our local Re-Store for….$16!

It has a little space heater since the heat isn’t connected to this room.

The girls actually stay pretty toasty.

They claim they have the coziest room because they have carpet AND their own heater.

And a transom window.

And for all you locals who have been to our house and are curious about where the storage room was/new bedroom is. {Since I probably just whisked you by it, along with the basement, on the house tour.}

It’s the space off the mud and laundry room at the back of the house.

Christmas Break is next week.

I’ll probably have loads of time to write up blogs while I’m hiding in the bathroom drowning out the crying with Christmas carols and chocolate.

Holidays at the Homestead

Which is what I’m calling this Hallmark movie, I mean, post.

Doesn’t it sound so romantic?

And not like there’s been rain, rain, sickness, rain, crying and broken ornamnets?

See?

I am a great marketer.

There’s an excessive amount of pictures, cuz {don’t tell my grandma I use that word, or still have terrible posture}I don’t know if you heard…

BUT I GOT A NEW CAMERA!!!

So…

I’ve been trying it out.

I naively thought I’d pick up the in’s and out’s faster since, generally speaking, I know how cameras and the various buttons work,

however, that has not been the case.

I’m trying to not get discouraged or feel like I’ve blown my hard saved money.

{Generally one would say ‘earned’ in this situtation, but apparently Bryce earns the money in the household and is therefore loved more, according to Meg…losing my ever-living mind.}

I know hot chocolate trays are very kitsche but I’m so glad we did one this year, it has been simple and super fun.

Colorful IKEA straws and deer certainly don’t hinder the cause.

DSC_0117

Sometimes I feel like I go a bit overboard with the decorating, but I heard Elizabeth tell her teacher that our house looks magical at Christmas time, so….it’s worth it.

Even if I never convince Bryce that a third tree is a necessity.

OK, guys, that tree, the one in the next photo, is seriously leaning.

I’m getting our nine year old’s eyes checked.

You know, the one who was consulting while Bryce was holding it steady, and I was securing it with screws.

This tree is a lot of things, straight is not one of them.

Elizabeth and Libby’s New Room

Elizabeth and Libby took over the old ‘master’ bedroom.

Nothing really grand about it, other than it had the biggest bed, and the coolest people, inhabiting it.

Original before:

Post stripes

It actually looked quite a bit different after this photo was taken, but I guess documenting one’s air quote master bedroom is not a super high priority.

SAM_1378

Now Libby and Elizabeth live here, happily, for the most part.

The is the table that was mine and my sister’s growing up.

I found this doll house in my MIL’s attic and my mom had a similar when she was a kid.

I have since made a more feminine sheet and hung some bunting made from old embroidered linens.  But Christmas is kinda kicking my bum, so no pictures.

And The Boy’s Room

The original.

I was pretty confident this room looked awesome.

It was my first foray into decorating for a boy.

I still claim I was headed in the right direction,

just along a weird, weird path.

And then with the arrival of Bennett, we painted and trimmed and caulked.

Another before.

And then until just a few weeks ago, Libby was living in here, owning the crib, her clothes in suitacases, Bennett on a cot.

{Bet you never felt so confident in yourself as a kid and bedroom owner before reading this post.}

And now, just the two boys.

Hoping to get the Christmas lights up and the house decorated, obviously.

Please notice the absence of a firm deadline….

And I got the ladder mounted to the wall, hopefully securely.

Strung with lighted clips and family pictures.

And some old fashioned American tree climbing.
