They Turned Out OK

Family pictures, that is.

And they very well could not have.

Because I’m in the business of keeping my kids alive.

Which means an annual flu shot.

{On the same day the sun shone and the schedule was open - so pictures it was.}

And shots usually go alright.

Well, it could’ve.

If the nurse would have done the nasal application instead of an actual shot.

You know, like I told my kids was going to happen?

But I guess a sharp and pointy object into the fleshiest appendage was the set up for the day.

The kids did not take the news lying down.

Adeline for instance took it clinging to the chair

and then lying on the floor

and then convulsing on the exam table

loudly proclaiming that this was the worst day of her life

and she should’ve locked herself in the doctor office’s bathroom when she had the chance.

{Not kidding, there were witnesses.}

And Libby?

Not a single tear or cry.

Not that I’m in the habit of shaming the older kids by comparing their reactions to that of the 18 month old.

I’m super mature that way.
