It’s Been A Banner Day

And by banner day I mean Libby both

ate dog poop

and swallowed a penny.

We also had to go to the shoe store.

I hate going to the shoe store.

Why are there never carts?

And everything is toddler height.

And loads of stools and mirrors.

It’s basically a free carnival without the benefits of fried anything.

The only picture I may take today is me going to bed early after a startling amount of hot chocolate.

It’s fine. It’s fine.

At least not all days are like this.

Most days Libby only eats actual food.

See, fine.

So, I make my kids play outside.

Even after they make arguements about how much time they spend outside:

{ALL DAY!}

walking to school: 10 min

walking from school: 10 min

recesses: 45 min.

I did the math, roughly one hour,

out of 12.

But when else would they get to do fun things like…..make up dance routines on the front porch.

SEE?!

We’re doing something right.

This Week Has Been My Week

I know a good week is not nearly as entertaining as a bad week.

But guys, this week has been amazing.

Way less bickering.

Libby has been sleeping in till like 8 and then taking a four hour nap in the afternoon.

{Which translates into me being able to eat my breakfast and lunch without sharing.}

I’ve been able to check a couple of items off my to-do list, mainly sewing.

I’m planning on putting a quilt on so I wanted to have the other things done and out of the way.

I menu planned!

And stuck with it!

And the kids ate it!

See?!

Totally my week.

And there have also been bits of sun along the way, certainly doesn’t hurt.

With the exception of a massive miscommunication this morning with Bryce about what our summer plans are…pret.ty good week.

Aaanndd….Bryce is starting a new job.

He’s going to work for a public tax accountant with the plan to purchase the practice next January.

He’ll own his own business.

So…basically, in March, in the dredges of tax season

that I have not experienced for six years

or with six kids,

my posts with be quite different…

they will be a plea for help and chocolate,

most likely from the bathroom,

because I have not left the house for days

or seen Bryce

or gotten dressed

and the only thing I will have eaten are the salt from my own tears….

But not today!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had this “quilt top” that I had pieced from the scraps of another quilt I had made.

The measurements were obscure.

I also had a duvet insert that my sister had given me that is toddler size.

So…I made a duvet for the insert for Libby’s bed.

And a sunrise.

We rarely see the sun in the mornings here in the winter.

We usually have clouds that often burn off in the afternoon, but it’s overcast in the mornings most days.

And the library.

Our girls are producing again.

Which is awesome.

Because I won’t be buying eggs at the grocery store

hoping that no one calls me out for the traitor I am.

I mean…who buys eggs from the store when you have 30 chickens?!

It’s embarrasing.

Working on reading.

DSC_0180

See this chair?

I got it from my neighbor’s out building.

I cleaned it, sanded it, stained it.

DSC_0196

And it looks almost exactly the same.

It’s fine, my self worth is not based up on the success of a DIY project.

Mostly.

Two Years Ago

We were praying fervently for rain.

Because we were in a drought and much of this area’s economy depends on the orchards doing well.

This winter I have water in my basement

{not inches, but it’s definitely, definitely damp}

piles of laundry because a part of our washer froze

making it incapacitated until we could get the replacement part

and we actually used the snow pants I picked up at a garage sale on a whim last summer.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another and it reminds me that things are constantly changing so I should try harder to just enjoy where I’m at and what I’m doing.

So, today, I’m going to enjoy

holding Libby on my hip all day long until my arm goes numb because she seems to be particularly fussy,

and Elizabeth yelling at me because she can’t find her shoes because she’s convinced I put them away somewhere super secret only I would know about because I’m mean and manipulative like that,

and Adeline crying that she might as well be dead because I’m making her eat the chicken I put in the sauce of my cream based penne pasta.

{It was delicious, let me know if you want the link to the recipe.}

But all things considered, we’re blessed.

With this last bout of weather people have been snowed it, lost power and our one neighbor lost an entire tree, roots ground side up and everything.

We managed to miss all that.

This one is pretty good.  The kitty was safe from Libby since she can’t get in and out of the crib.

She was pretty ticked to find him in her bed, taking a bath, on her blankets.
