Winner and Projects

mamapineapple is the winner!  I’ll get it to you soon, since you live just around the corner, or maybe not quite that soon, because in fact, you do just live around the corner….

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I stopped by an estate sale one Saturday and picked up this old vanity mirror frame and a couple of other frames.

I painted everything up and put it to work.

I  finally filled out my mock gallery wall.

SAM_2769

And if anyone cares, I put away my 4th of July décor.

Yesterday.

Approximately 37 days after I had first put it up.

SAM_2763

SAM_2766

And because I’m nesting, I’m working on projects completely irrelevant to bringing a new life into the world.

Like repainting my kitchen benches.

Which after much searching, I came to the conclusion that I never took a ‘before’ picture as they were too hideous.

SAM_2762

Because I was at Wal-Mart buying back to school supplies I bought some orange-ish/pink chevron fabric.

Which I put on a down pillow I bought in Utah at Ikea…..nine months ago.

It actually looked way more salmon/coral color in the store or maybe that was the insanity talking after toting around four kids in Wal-Mart trying to find pink pearl erasers….

Didn’t think that one through.

Have a good weekend.

There was this one time…

when I was like ten.

And my parents shipped me off.

To Utah.

Where two of my aunts lived at the time.

Shipped off, my friends.

Because my mom just couldn’t take it anymore.

Looking back, perhaps I may have been a bit obnoxious at times.

I was ten!

Isn’t everyone a bit obnoxious at that age?

Anyway, I recall one event with fondness, my aunt taught me to cross-stitch and make a pillow.

So, I thought I’d teach my girls to embroider {ahem, last year}, that way when they’re shipped off, they won’t be bored.

They finally, finally finished up their names and we made their pillows last week.

I’m also teaching them that matching/coordinating fabric is not the same as having the same color of fabric.

Super hard concept, apparently.

And one other thing you should know about me.

I’m an excellent bumper crop gardener.

I plant at least ten different things each year and I end up only being good at about four of them.

Last year was tomatoes, broccoli and green beans.

This year I had one out of 12 broccoli plants survive, two actual bean plants out of an entire package came up and out of 25 tomato plants only like two have actual tomatoes.

However, I am rocking peppers, beets, lettuce, and potatoes this year.

Whatev.

SAM_2746

And I made plum jelly from some free produce.

It is delicious and tastes a lot like grape jelly.

So I thought I’d give one away.

Some People….

Put fluorescent industrial lighting in their kitchen.

Some people firmly believe there is never, never a good enough reason to have this type of light in any house.  Ever.

SAM_2736

Some people replace that light with a chandelier that was replaced by a ceiling fan because some people chose to buy a house

without air conditioning and move to a state where one weekend it’s 95 degrees in May and furiously put in four ceiling fans and

the next weekend its 61 degrees.

SAM_2740

Some people have chandeliers in their kitchen because they bought a house that was built before electricity was invented so

lighting options in much of the household are limited, but they really, really, really love a certain chandelier, so in the kitchen it

goes.

SAM_2739

Some people have vain children whom on occasion demand to have their pictures on a blog post.

SAM_2729

SAM_2732

SAM_2728

Some people have little boys who enjoy wearing pink leotards while playing with trucks.

SAM_2725

Some people may or may not be nesting….

Not What It Seems…

What I’m about to do may come across like I’m bragging.

Not so, my friends, not so.

I realize I’ve been negligent in my posting responsibilities, as I’m sure many of you have realized as well.

I’m working on a couple of projects which aren’t quite ready to share.

{Which may or may not be because I totally screwed up on one…}

And I’m sorely tempted to do a rant post about all of the really rude strangers and acquaintances that feel it is their responsibility and obligation to comment on the size of my belly.

Yes, it’s big.

You know why it’s big????

Because I’m growing a human being.

Which will soon come out and I won’t have a belly anymore…

But you’re haircut from 30 years ago, which just to get you brushed up on your history was in the 80s, will still be visible.

That is all.

So anyway, I’m giving you a link to a post my friend did about Adeline’s birthday party:

http://schtaylor.blogspot.com/2013/07/why-katie-is-so-cool.html

Please don’t comment about how much better her pictures are than mine,

I’m already painfully aware….

Katie

Ms. Taylor was in no way monetarily compensated and all of her opinions are her own….but you have to admit, she makes me sound pretty awesome….

Sister’s Weekend

I was in Idaho over the 4th of July and since a good portion of us were there (all but one sister-in-law) we decided to hold the annual sister’s weekend.

We typically hold it in September but it’s kind of difficult with school starting and such.

I was excited this year because I could make something bigger because I wouldn’t have to ship it.

photo (6)

It’s a chalkboard countdown board thing.

I picked up some 5 1/2” primed MDF trim, cut it down to 3 ft, painted it with chalkboard paint and then used a paint pen for the writing.

We also made matching dresses for all the girl cousins when we got together.

A Unexpected Sequel

Once upon a time there was this awesome mom.

Again, this person is me.

And she let her kids earn money to buy some rabbits.

Sound familiar?

Remember how one was a boy and one was a girl?

So do I.

Which is why, once we found this out in the form on a surprise litter, the two were henceforth separated.

Completely.

Not even supervised visits.

We had a trip planned to Idaho and left our home in the care of our neighbor.

We came back a week later to find that there were no rabbits at our house.

Some of us (me) were delighted with the prospect that the rabbits had magically disappeared.

Not even close.

There was another litter of babies.

I don’t know, people, I just don’t know.

Our neighbor had taken the rabbits, now tripled in number, to his house.

The mommy had seven babies originally, but only four survived.

Not even survived, are pretty much thriving.

I have to admit, baby bunnies are awfully cute.

Way cuter that grown rabbits.

SAM_2687

SAM_2688

Unfortunately, we had about talked Elizabeth into giving her rabbit away as she had very little to do with her recently.

However, with the addition of these babies, there seems to be a renewed interest.

Awesome.
