A Conversation with Myself

While shopping for jeans:

'I love these jeans. Nice color, good length, great bum. I'm totally getting these. Where have they been all my life?'

6 months later, same pair of jeans, while looking in a full length mirror:

'Oh my gosh, I can't believe I've been wearing these jeans almost every single day and they make me look like this. Why hasn't some one told me they look awful? My bum has NEVER looked worse. I definitely need to go jean shopping. I'm putting these in the far recesses of my dresser drawer. I'm humiliated.'

While shopping for jeans:

'I love these jeans. Nice color, good length, great bum. I'm totally getting these. Where have they been all my life?'

6 months later, same pair of jeans, while looking in a full length mirror:

'I hate these jeans. I don't know why I ever bought them. What a waste of my money. I'm putting these in the far recesses of my dresser drawer.'

While putting 2nd pair of jeans in far recesses of my drawer, I happen upon 1st pair of jeans, I put them on:

'Holy smokes, these jeans look awesome. I wonder why I haven't been wearing them? It's like the whole package. I don't know why I thought those other jeans were better than these ones, it's pretty obvious they're not.'

Repeat yearly.

Happy Valentine's Day

  1. LOL! Been there. I hate it when you shop at a store with those trick "skinny" mirrors that make you look all statuesque. Then you get home and wonder what the heck happened in the time it took you to drive home from the mall.

  2. Yeah, I'm not sure I've ever had that conversation with myself.

    Mine goes more like this:
Find jeans in recesses of drawer.
Realize they are from before pregnancy and perhaps before marriage.
Try them on... Nope- not gonna happen.
Say to myself, "Surely I can lose those last 2 inches/10 pounds in the next few months.?

    3-4 months later:
    Repeat.
    Sigh.

  3. Mine is more like:
Man, I can't wait till this pregnancy is over cuz I needed new clothes before, and I definitely need them now. So as soon as we're "back" whatever that may mean, I'm throwing away anything and everything that is worn out and looks bad, without even trying it on. Which at this point is pretty much everything. Then, I'll leave the baby with the hubby and run off to the stores. The end.

P.S.: I don't have enough drawers to keep things I don't need, plus, I hate that. Oh and DI is not worth my drive, and I will not sell clothes at a garage sale. Straight trash bag. It's actually quite refreshing, I do it often.

  4. I usually buy in twos if I really like it. I think my latest pairs of jeans are awesome! I won't even wear the last 3 pair (that I thought were wonderful at the time) of jeans I bought; unless I know I'm not going anywhere!

  5. Surprisingly, I found an awesome pair of jeans in my drawer that I hadn't worn for a while...found they looked great rolled up and haven't taken them off since...I'm sure in a few months I'll see a picture of myself in the jeans and wonder what I was thinking...but I'm okay living in denial until then. :)

  6. shlot--that place in the far recesses of your closet that hides (and sometimes produces) some interesting things.

  7. My current favorite pair of jeans came from my sister and are probably from a garage sale, but who can turn down Ralph Lauren jeans that still had the tags on them??? Best fitting jeans I've ever owned. Of course now I'm trying to get too skinny for them because of course they're a bigger size then I'd like to be. When my 5:30 workout sessions py off hopefully someone will surprise me with a new free pair of Ralph Lauren jeans because I'm sure I'll be too cheapo to actually pay his real price.
