It's the Little Things

This is going to be lame.

But I thought all of you devoted bloggers and blog readers out there would like to know:

This has been a monumental day for me.

After reading and writing countless posts, it finally happened.

The security word I had to write today to leave a comment was:

a real word....

fries

the kind of fries that you crave when you're pregnant with your first baby and you're so swollen you're pretty confident you should not consume another milligram of salt but you find reassurance knowing you couldn't gain any more weight if you wanted to so you save your pennies and indulge yourself with fries that are on sale for $1, size large, at Arctic Circle.

  • draw string kitchen trash bags

  • real Ritz crackers

  • Sherwin-Williams paint

  • good shoes

  • Crayola crayons

  • disposable diapers

  • happy hour at Sonic

  • junk (treasures) from garage/estate sales

  • fabric

  • perennials

  • high-speed Internet

  • cream

  • cold cereal

  • some one other than me to paint the house, although that attempt failed miserably....

  • babies

  • curtain rods

  • books

  • fresh fruit

  • spray paint

  • light fixtures

  • dinner at a restaurant, that is warm when it gets to me, I didn't have to prepare and I don't have to clean up after it

Completely Normal

We re-arranged our master bedroom 2 weeks ago. Total time in our house: 6 months. I also replaced the curtains that I made. That's normal, right?

My mother-in-law gave me 8 old flour sacks, this is what I did with one of them.

What do you guys put your laundry in: yucky, run-of-the-mill, plastic baskets? Any better ideas out there?

That chandelier is Bryce's Father's Day gift. Not actually the crystal chandelier, I bought it for $5 last year at an estate sale. Having a light in our room was the gift, and he didn't have to do any of the electrical himself, which he abhors.

Have a great weekend.

This post took me 5.7 minutes to put together, two children, ahem, are in their room 'sorting out their feelings'.

A 'Taking a Break From Scraping Paint Off Windows' Wednesday Post

*If you could do something with out anyone else knowing that you did it, what would you do and why?

Eat white bread every single day, because wheat bread is gross.

*An aid to creativity is curiosity, list some things you are curious about.

What is eating my plums and then pooping in my yard. Skunk? Mt. lion? Child?

Why Adeline insists on picking unripe grapes and feeding them to the chickens when I have asked her not to.

Why Meg pees in her panties and then asks to go pee pee in the potty when she has a diaper on.

*Recall the first time you flunked or failed at something.

Senior year, high school, physics test: big, fat, red 'F'.

What about you?

Already Today I've:

  • cursed the existence of Littlest Pet Shop, I'm pretty sure my kids will need sibling therapy thanks to that little toy.

  • sent Adeline to her room for crying.

  • thanked the heavens that it's nobody's birthday again till next year.

  • changed Meg's clothes once.

  • done two loads of laundry.

  • unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher - that one's for you Bryce.

  • posted on Facebook.

  • put Spencer down for a nap, not in the bathtub, which is where he slept when we were on vacation with Bryce's family at the coast.

  • been spit up on four times.

  • killed two spiders, one maggot, and put one moth outside, who I think was already dead.

  • thought about locking myself in the bathroom so I can finish my book, assuming no 'husband co-worker' is outside painting trim....

  • put on a sweater and slippers.

  • reminded myself multiple times to make the hair accessories that people won from my blog giveaway like five months ago.

  • wondered on more than one occasion if Spencer will cry as much as the girls.

  • heard Elizabeth cry and complain about eating Cream of Wheat.

  • contemplated the thought that maybe I'm taking out all of the nutritional value from Cream of Wheat by serving it with a generous dose of sugar and cream.

  • questioned why 'nobody's' not a word according to blogger.

The Good Life

He has hair, it's just really blonde.
The chicken coop. It's sporting two old windows.

Today, I'm thinking about how nice this move has been for us. (I have time this morning because three sleep deprived children are actually sleeping in and it's just me and Spencer.)

To me, the simple life is:

  • Raising chickens, they're pretty easy going.

  • Friends who raise chickens and give you free eggs.

  • Living in an area where kids can leave their bikes and toys out for days and nothing gets stolen....although it does look a little (OK, a lot) white trash.

  • Your husband's commute is 2 miles.

  • There is no traffic report in the morning.

  • Having a grape arbor which you are really hopeful produces grapes.

  • Meeting a new friend who's husband and father spend the entire week helping your husband build a chicken coop so you can go on vacation with the calm assurance that you have no living chickens in your house.

  • Your neighbor coming over and mowing your weeds, I mean, grass.

I'm going to paint the chicken coop, I'm thinking a red, white, and blue theme....

Have a great holiday weekend, I know I'm going to.
