The Waiting Game
Which is a lie.
Games are supposed to be fun.
Waiting for a baby is not fun.
It’s actually prett.y lame.
On the flip side, I’ve gotten everything done I was trying to accomplish.
One of the things on the list was this bassinet.
I bought it at a garage sale for $5.
Bryce reinforced the bottom.
I washed, sanded, and sealed it.
Bought a foam pad.
And made some fitted sheets.
And for the heck of it, some bunting.
Then Elizabeth’s like, are you going to paint it?
And I’m like, uh, no.
She’s like, but the paint is coming off and you can see the wood…
And I’m like, I know, right!?
She’s like, so you’re not going to paint it….?
Poor confused girl.
You think she would have caught on when one of her friends came over and she had to explain to her friend why her mother has a wall full of frames with no pictures in them…..
Have a good weekend.

Three Years Ago
I bought a quilt at a garage sale.
{Unfortunately, not an exaggeration.}
For, like, $3.
I’m just making that up…..
it was three years ago, people.
Someone {I’m sure they’re perfectly nice} decided to make it into a comforter and sewed some hideous 80s fabric around the edge,
with ruffles
and tied with yarn.
{Probably didn’t need to mention the fabric was hideous AND from the 80s…}
It was super sad.
Especially since the fabric was appliqued by hand.
I started working on it three years ago.
{Unfortunately, also not an exaggeration.}
So I finished it up this week.
Because we all know that finishing a project started three years ago is very pertinent to having a baby enter this world.
I hand quilted it and made a scrappy backing and used some leftover binding to finish it off.
So, when it was done, I showed Bryce how it turned out.
He didn’t even recognize the quilt.
Like, not at all.
Not even a recollection.
Sometimes three years is just too long….

I’m Avoiding…
my dishes from canning apple-cinnamon syrup (scratching the apple pie filling for the season) and thought I’d come post something…
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The last week of summer, my in-laws took the kids.
All of them.
For an entire week.
It was kinda like a second honeymoon because Bryce took some days off of work, except for the fact
that our house is an hundred years old
I was 9 months pregnant
and it was ten years later.
While the chil’ens were gone, we worked on the room for the boys.
First before
2nd before
After, with some new paint and trim.
I glued made the vintage looking sports pennants.
Bryce picked out the fabric for the curtains.
I’m waiting for my mom to come visit to finish them.
Because I’m banking on it driving her crazy that I safety pinned the tabs to the curtains.
Not a perfectionist.
I live in a house built in 1875.
That ship has sailed.
Before
We bought a new crib which will go in the blank spot.
I have the new sheet and bumper all made up.
Just wait.ing.
Before
(He’s pretty cute, right?)
After
We took down the old wood rain gutter and I’m going to have Bryce cut it in half.
Then I’ll attach it to the wall behind the chair so we can put little board books there and have a mini library.
All the curtains are closed because it’s still super hot here.
Like in the 100s.
Pretty sure we’re the only state not getting pounded with rain.
Lucky dogs….

Did You Know….
that some people really love college football?
Like, love.it.
My experiences with college football are pretty minimal.
My home town’s college team wasn’t worth mentioning for a long while. {No offense, James.}
And the college I went to only had a foot ball team as a matter of protocol.
They were pretty pathetic.
And then I married Bryce,
and met his family,
and hung out with some of his friends.
and let’s just say I talk a bit more college football then I used to.
One of Bryce’s good friends {mine, now, too} recently moved to Texas and commissioned me to make a little bit of home town love for them.
And I said ‘yes’.
{If you look closely, it says ‘sucker’ across my forehead….}
I was 35 weeks pregnant at the time.
Which wasn’t the bigger issue.
I had never machine quilted before.
In my life.
But….
I had looked at quite a few tutorials
and watched some YouTube videos.
{Famous last words…}
Let’s just say after five hours of unpicking, eight broken needles in two hours and a stream of undermybreath curse words….
I changed tactics and consulted my sewing manual.
After which I got it done in like two hours….
Until my machine broke.
But with in minutes of posting the tragedy, my friend had her sewing machine dropped off at my house.
And I finished up the project last night,
apparently with plenty of time to spare because this baby is not.coming.any.time.soon.
It’s reversible.
And I made some game-day bunting with the extra fabric.
I also put together a matching pillow sham which I was too lazy to photograph….
One project down, 52 to go.

Don’t Hold Your Breath….
this is not going to be an awesome post.
My original plan was to do this massive installment of all the things I had accomplished during the week and weekend.
57.3 projects, to be exact.
But…..
my sewing machine died.
{I may or may not have convinced the sewing machine service guy that it would be in everyone’s best interest if my machine jumped the line so I could get everything done I needed to before this baby comes.}
So I’ve managed to get a lot of things glue gunned…..
Also, I’m trying to finish up the last of the canning.
{beets, peppers, grape juice, pear pepper jelly, apple pie filling, raspberry freezer jam, etc.}
And, it’s super fun to be home with just Spencer and Meg.
I had forgotten how much easier those ages are compared to Elizabeth’s eight-year-old-self-entitlement-discontent-needy-whiny-argumentative attitude.

P.S. If you’re not above praying for one’s sewing machine, I would appreciate all the support I can get….

In A Nutshell
- My mother-in-law and I bought these at a garage sale.
- I refinished them.
- They’re pretty awesome.
- In three weeks we will have a new baby to use it.
- A very nameless baby….
- Elizabeth and Bryce got this chalk board from the school dumpster.
- We threw one of these….
- And I managed to snap one photo.
- She started 3rd…
- She started 1st…
- And the three of us left at home get to take naps….
- Spencer moved into a big bed.
- But not quite big enough because he fell out of it last night.
- I made him a new pillow and blanket to commemorate the event.
- I also put up two little pints of raspberry freezer jam, from my very own raspberry bushes.
- I have arrived people, I have arrived….
